Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective
Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives into early childhood curriculums is a multifaceted approach that includes using Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pedagogies, using children’s interests as a vehicle for learning and creating culturally inclusive play spaces.
Sustainabilty
Sustainability has been a pivotal part of our classroom for many years now. Key principles and practices are embedded in our daily routine, curriculum, and overall philosophy. Our preschoolers are also involved in many roles as Eco Warriors, such as caring for our vegetable gardens, looking after the worm farm, and adding to the recycling and compost bins on a daily basis. We strive for our children to transition to school with an overall appreciation for the environment and an understanding of the importance of conservation. Our latest addition to the preschool room is the working garden located in the classroom. This has allowed the children to take one step further in bringing the outdoors in and taking complete ownership over caring for and growing their own plants and vegetables.
Mindfulness
Our mindfulness program is about helping children build a strong sense of well-being so that they have the confidence to maximise their learning potential. It gives them the skills and techniques to help express their thoughts and feelings, self-regulate and build a strong healthy body. It incorporates breathing exercises; using music, and being creative using movement and craft.
