About Us
Engadine Gumnut Child Care centre operating and educating and caring for the local community for over 50 years in the current location.
Gumnuts has been owned since 2006 by local sisters, Allyson O'Keefe and Kim Maher, who are also the Directors available on the premises daily.
“We became the owners of Gumnuts in 2006, and have since developed a very close knit family within the Gumnut walls, that extends out into the wider community and beyond.”
Gumnuts is lucky to have access to our beautiful local natural environment, incorporating our indoor and outdoor environments together into the children's day. We spend many spontaneous opportunities in the park next door, and enjoy multiply visits out in the local community/Parks and National park throughout the year.
Gumnuts supports our local community and businesses through excursion and incursions, such as regular visits to the residents of St Vincents (John Paul Village), Loftus tram museum, Rural fire station, community walks and visits from Multicultural shows and Aboriginal elders. We also support inclusion and diversity, through supporting Assistance Dog, Bear Cottage (children respite care) and welcoming a wide variety of people with different abilities into our centre for the children to engage with..
“Restore balance. Most kids have technology, school and extracurricular activities covered. It’s time to add a pinch of adventure, a sprinkle of sunshine and a big handful of outdoor play.” ~ Penny Whitehouse
“When children feel safe, secure and supported they grow in confidence to explore and learn”
